Q1. How do I know if the BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitoring equipment is compatible with my Brake Controller?
A1. The BLTE Systems 12V Electric Brake Monitoring equipment can be used in conjunction with all makes and models of 12V Brake Controllers. Please feel free to contact us for more specific details on your equipment. 

Q2. How do I know whether the BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitoring equipment is compatible with the electric drum brakes fitted to my towed vehicle?
A2. Depending on the axle rating of your towed vehicle, the dimensions of the drum brake assemblies and the ratings of the brake magnets can vary. The BTLE Systems 12V Electric Brake Monitoring Unit Model No EBMU-12-3.2 is designed for use with 3.2 ohm wheel magnets (which can be distinguished by the fact that they have green wires) as these are by far the most common. If the magnets in your vehicle have wires which are not green, get in touch to discuss our alternative monitoring units.

Q3. Can I install a BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitoring System if my towed vehicle is fitted with a breakaway system?
A3. Yes, the BTLE Systems safe2tow Electric Brake Monitoring equipment can be used in conjunction with all makes and models of Breakaway Systems. The safe2tow Brake Monitoring System is an excellent tool for checking that the breakaway system is working properly. 

Q4. Can I install a BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitoring System if my vehicle is fitted with an Electronic Stability Control/Sway Control system?
A4. At this time we are unable to guarantee that the BTLE Systems safetow Brake Monitoring System is compatible with ALL makes and models of Electronic Stability Control/Sway Control systems. Get in touch for information specific to you. 

Q5. If the BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitoring equipment stops working will it compromise the operation of my Brake Controller or any other part of the electric brake system?
A5. No. The safe2tow Brake Monitoring System does nothing more than monitor the electrical signals in the brake magnet circuits. A failure of the monitoring system will not compromise the operation of the Brake Controller or any other part of the electric brake system.

Q6. Is there a BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitoring System available for vehicles fitted with 24V electrical systems?
A6. No. 24V electrical systems are most common on heavy vehicles and we have not yet developed a Brake Monitoring System for heavy vehicle applications.

Q7. How can the BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitoring System help me when I am adjusting my Brake Controller?
A7. The BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitor App provides a graphic representation of the electrical output from the Brake controller. Instead of having to feel the braking effect of the brake controller through the driver’s seat, the App provides a visual reference of the signal levels being applied to the brakes. These can be easily correlated with the brake controller adjustment. Most people who own brake controllers which incorporate inertial sensors are very surprised to see the response of the brake controller under various braking conditions. Some have also commented that they now understand why their brakes seem to be dragging excessively when braking on downhill slopes.

Q8. Can I install the BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitoring equipment myself?
A8. Although the installation of the BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitoring equipment is not difficult, the braking system on your towed vehicle is a critical safety system and on that basis installation work should only be performed by appropriately qualified personnel.

Q9. Can I be assured that my brakes are working properly if the BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitor App indicates that all wheel magnet currents are within their normal operating range?
A9. Not necessarily. The BTLE Systems safe2tow Braking Monitoring equipment only monitors the operation of the electric brake components and wiring. It is true that a mechanical problem, such as incorrectly adjusted or worn brake shoes, may still exist. Periodic inspection and adjustment of the mechanical components will always be required.

Q10. Do I have to rewire my brakes when I fit the BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitoring System?
A10. Yes. However, because all of the wiring runs along the vehicle underbody this is not difficult or expensive to do.

Q11. Does it matter if the electrical cables running to each wheel magnet are a different length?
A11. As long as the wiring is appropriately sized, the slight differences in length between the magnets circuits on the left and right hand sides of the vehicle are not significant. (We recommend a minimum of 4mm automotive cable.) The BTLE Systems safe2tow Brake Monitor App clearly demonstrates this by the fact that the current levels in each magnet are essentially the same. If, after installing the safe2tow Brake Monitoring System, the App indicates that current levels in each magnet are not the same the first thing to check is that the correct wire size has been used.
